Did You Know...
Perhaps you know everything there is to know, and then some, in the Muppet Universe. You may know Zoot’s favorite salad, and you know what brand of jeans the Muppeteers wore in September of 1978. Then you probably know way too much for your own good, and you probably already know these little tidbits of info about Richard that I dug up (and they didn’t belong anywhere, but I thought they should go someplace, so here they are!). However, for the average fan, did you know…
--Richard Hunt was a Muppeteer. I had to start somewhere, and I thought I’d get the obvious out of the way. Besides, there could be people searching for some non-Muppet Richard Hunt. They’re in for a shock!
--He puppeteered (but did not voice) Janice in “Sex and Violence.*
--Richard directed a couple Muppet productions. He directed an episode of Fraggle Rock (“The Honk of Honks”), as talked about in Down At Fraggle Rock. He also directed “Jim Henson’s Sing-Along, Dance-Along, Do-Along” video thing (thanks to Scott Hanson for the photo!).
--One of the characters that Richard performed on Sesame Street was Dip Cat.* You may already know this, but I don’t really care. I just like saying “Dip Cat”. It’s funny. Dip Cat!
--In addition to puppeteering, directing, and having small roles in movies, Richard also tried his hand at writing. He wrote many treatments and draft scripts for what eventually became “Puppetman”. Unfortunately, it was not the episode that was shot.
--In “Sex and Violence”, Richard was the “hands” for the Sweedish Chef.*
--Another one of Richard’s Sesame Street characters was Headline Howie.* Again, I just think it’s a funny name.
So there you have it. If you already knew everything here, good for you! If you didn’t, good for you! Now you have all of these neat little facts to amaze and amuse your friends (and convince them that you have too much free time for your own good!).
*These are according to the Noncomprehensive Richard Hunt Character List that the JHC Archives people sent me. If you have a problem with it, you’re beef is with them, not me!
